LACE

Today after uni, I went to see my friend Michelle, who were showing a collection at an event called LACE (London Africa Cultural Event)! It was a cool show, although I felt that sometimes the choreography was a bit too much and too dragged out.

Theme boards

To be able to start develop our designs, we spent class yesterday creating theme boards. Believe it or not, but we actually spent the entire class, 6 hours, on three boards. When putting together a theme board you have to consider images and layout very carefully, so you have to spend a lot of time on each board.

The tutor gave us some directions; the first board had to contain three square- or rectangle shaped images, the second one could have a maximum of five images in any shape creating one image together, and the third had to take inspiration from an image found in a graphic design book and also had to have words on it.

I ended up with these (photos taken with my phones camera):

Not a Sunday roast

I met up with Ivy and Nelson today! The plan was to go for a Sunday roast, however we soon noticed that every place we found was completely booked for the entire day (of course), so we ended up going to a Vietnamese restaurant instead. It was still a nice way to spend a Sunday, even though we didn't get the roast, and now we know that next time we should probably book in advance :)

My new skin remedy: Latex

I played around with liquid latex today, to try to get some inspiration for my project I guess. This type of liquid latex is meant to be painted on the body, so I figured it would be fun to paint my face with it. With some help from my friend Sannie, it was turned into a pretty cool photo shoot!

Photo shoot

Part of the assignment that I showed in a previous post was to make a photo shoot with the garment we made, and my flatmate Natasha was nice enough to model for it today!

Design process

So classes have started again, and we already have loads to do! Last week, we started to work on our themes for the final collections, and among other things I made this mood board:

Then yesterday, the assignment was to dye some fabric red (though mine turned out a horrible bright pink...) plus getting a different fabric in another colour, then using the mood board for inspiration while draping on a stand. The draping doesn't have to look wearable, it's all just a part of the creating process. The in the end we were to take one of the "looks" we came up with and make it into something wearable.

Just a little insight in what we're doing in class ;)

yesterday

There's been a lot going on lately, with preparing for the school start, finding a room etc, and I've had very limited access to wifi. Now, all of that (except the wifi, I'm at a café writing this) is taken care of, so you'll hopefully see more on here from now on!

Yesterday, Terés and I went to Muswell Hill. We looked in stores then sat down at a café to have some coffee. After that, I went to the Swedish church here in London to see the results of the election that has been going on in Sweden. Unfortunately I wasn't very happy when I left. The fact that an openly racist party is the third biggest in the country is seriously frightening! What also baffles me is that there was actually swedish people here in London who voted for that party. If it were for that party, those people wouldn't even be able to live abroad.

To change the subject - My classes started today, and I'm really excited about this term! I will post more about it once we've started working on the projects!
