Red is my colour

I thought it was time to get use of the paint I brought with me and play around with watercolour, pencil and sharpie. It's important to keep drawing, even during the break :)

Regent's RSFD Launch show

My university has finally posted the pictures and the video of the fashion show that we had on the 2:nd, so I can finally show you guys some proper pictures from the show!

For those who are interested the whole video is here:

Skip to 11:40 for the good part ;)

I was actually quite proud of my coat when I saw it on the catwalk. I spent a lot of time on it, and I think it showed. I love the low cut sleeves and the openings in front of them that mimics the way your arms would come out of a cape.

The only thing bothering me was that we couldn't control what happened backstage. I don't understand why the dressers decided to only do one button on my coat. In my opinion, it should have been either buttoned all the way or not at all. Several of my classmates were actually very disappointed with what the dressers did with their garments. Despite us giving instructions before the show, they still decided to do their own thing, which they shouldn't be allowed to do. The fashion show is an opportunity for us designers to show what we do, not for them to pretend that they're stylists!

Anyway, you can find more images on Regent's RSFD Launch album on flickr!

Fashion portfolio project

It is finally the last week of term, and here is one of my finished projects, for my fashion portfolio class:

The project was to take a project from a previous class and redo it.

Also, the fashion show, where I showed my outfit from pre-collections, was yesterday. It was a good show, but unfortunately someone (that someone is me) forgot to check if the camera actually had any batteries before leaving the flat in the morning... So I was stuck taking photos with my phone, which didn't turn out so great. But I will try to get hold of some good pictures to show you, so don't worry!

How to survive in Fashion

Today, I received a book that I ordered a couple of weeks ago. It's called The Fashion Designer Survival guide. I've heard it's supposed to be good, so hopefully it has some good advice!

Pre-collection work

At the moment we are working hard on our pre-collection garments. Toiling and making the final garments.

LACE

Today after uni, I went to see my friend Michelle, who were showing a collection at an event called LACE (London Africa Cultural Event)! It was a cool show, although I felt that sometimes the choreography was a bit too much and too dragged out.

Theme boards

To be able to start develop our designs, we spent class yesterday creating theme boards. Believe it or not, but we actually spent the entire class, 6 hours, on three boards. When putting together a theme board you have to consider images and layout very carefully, so you have to spend a lot of time on each board.

The tutor gave us some directions; the first board had to contain three square- or rectangle shaped images, the second one could have a maximum of five images in any shape creating one image together, and the third had to take inspiration from an image found in a graphic design book and also had to have words on it.

I ended up with these (photos taken with my phones camera):

Not a Sunday roast

I met up with Ivy and Nelson today! The plan was to go for a Sunday roast, however we soon noticed that every place we found was completely booked for the entire day (of course), so we ended up going to a Vietnamese restaurant instead. It was still a nice way to spend a Sunday, even though we didn't get the roast, and now we know that next time we should probably book in advance :)

My new skin remedy: Latex

I played around with liquid latex today, to try to get some inspiration for my project I guess. This type of liquid latex is meant to be painted on the body, so I figured it would be fun to paint my face with it. With some help from my friend Sannie, it was turned into a pretty cool photo shoot!

Photo shoot

Part of the assignment that I showed in a previous post was to make a photo shoot with the garment we made, and my flatmate Natasha was nice enough to model for it today!

Design process

So classes have started again, and we already have loads to do! Last week, we started to work on our themes for the final collections, and among other things I made this mood board:

Then yesterday, the assignment was to dye some fabric red (though mine turned out a horrible bright pink...) plus getting a different fabric in another colour, then using the mood board for inspiration while draping on a stand. The draping doesn't have to look wearable, it's all just a part of the creating process. The in the end we were to take one of the "looks" we came up with and make it into something wearable.

Just a little insight in what we're doing in class ;)

15 Sept 2014

yesterday

There's been a lot going on lately, with preparing for the school start, finding a room etc, and I've had very limited access to wifi. Now, all of that (except the wifi, I'm at a café writing this) is taken care of, so you'll hopefully see more on here from now on!

Yesterday, Terés and I went to Muswell Hill. We looked in stores then sat down at a café to have some coffee. After that, I went to the Swedish church here in London to see the results of the election that has been going on in Sweden. Unfortunately I wasn't very happy when I left. The fact that an openly racist party is the third biggest in the country is seriously frightening! What also baffles me is that there was actually swedish people here in London who voted for that party. If it were for that party, those people wouldn't even be able to live abroad.

To change the subject - My classes started today, and I'm really excited about this term! I will post more about it once we've started working on the projects!

Life right now

I just love being back in London! There is always something fun going on! Yesterday, after looking for flats most of the day, I went to the covent garden area and found a really nice cafe' so I decided to treat myself with a cup of coffee and a muffin!

After that, I had a long conversation with Tobias over skype, while waiting to meet up with Anna and her friends Greg and Mona. We had a few drinks and a bit of food, then we found a place that had some form of free event and disco going on (right now I don't remember what it was called). There was a section where you could dress up and be photographed and this is what we looked like:

Then we walked over thames, looking at this fantastic view!

Friday drinks

Gee and I met up with Ivy today after she finished work and the three of us went to a bar in Soho. We talked about when we used to work together at GBK and lots of other things. The bar was quite cool as well. Their cocktails all had unusual names and flavors. Mine was called Aye Pod and tasted of cardamom and blackberries! It was actually surprisingly good!

I am back

It's been a bit of delay with this post. I arrived in London on tuesday evening, and since then I have had so much to take care of. I am in the middle of looking for flats, which is not an easy task here in London as there are so many rubbish flats out there. So many rooms are way over prized for the size and location, and the sad thing is that the landlords get away with it since there are so many that are desperate for rooms. While I'm looking for a room, I am staying with my dear friend Gee and her sister.

Yesterday, Anna had tickets for the football game between England and Norway at Wembley stadium, so we went there together with some of her friends. It was actually a pretty big difference going to a game here compared to what it's like in Sweden. All I can say is "meh". The game itself was boring (but that might be because I'm not very into football) and the atmosphere was not as exciting as the games I've been to in Sweden. Most people weren't even cheering. Seriously England, I am not impressed. But at least now I can say that I've been to a football game at Wembley stadium...

Now, I am just about to go out and meet up with my friend Ivy. We are going to look for flats together!

Football

I went to see the game between Djurgården and Malmö today, together with Tobias, his mother and my parents. The game ended 2-0 for Djurgården, so I went home with a very happy boyfriend. The rest of us all come from the Malmö area, so we weren't exactly as happy. But it was still fun :)

Stockholm weekend

We've been in central Stockholm with my parents today. They are here for a visit over the weekend and arrived yesterday, and they wanted to do some shopping while they are here.

We went to "Gamla stan" and had some lunch, then we had a look in some shops and walked around.

You may have noticed that I've been a bit absent  for a couple of days. I've just been trying to spend as much time as possible with Tobias and his family, since I'll be leaving for London on tuesday. Tobias can't go there with me, since he has a job here and I know I'm going to miss him a lot. I'm glad that my parents could come over before I leave.

Catch up

Just came back from a lovely evening over at André and Lisas' place. We had such a good time that I forgot to take any pictures. Their flat was so cosy and you could easily tell that it was them living there :)

Stockholm C

I went to central Stockholm today. First to meet up with Michelle and Henna, then with Julia! Had lots of great conversation and lauhgter :)
